I had to resort to using Windows on account of not being able to find the relevant Dell BIOS headers for the Optiplex 990 in anything but an .exe format. I've previously had full success with Optiplex 755's and Linux BIOS updates (see link on this page: http://davidjb.com/blog/2009/01/linux-graphics-card-woes-bios-issues). Unsure whether that method is suitable for these newer machines, though.

Whenever I download the driver from the link in your blog it fails to extract for some reason. It downloads OK from the Japanese site. Ubuntu 11.10 currently, though I believe it happened to me on previous versions of Ubuntu also. Thanks for the article; printing frustrates me to no end everytime I come across a fresh Ubuntu install at JCU.

Thanks. helped a lot. the RPM wouldn't convert to DEB for AMD64 architecture. This is great. I didn't set up a samba printer, but rather a native cups printer and it works very well.

[...] This RSS feed will (or should) only ever feature just 1 item ‘ the latest version information for the firmware. So, it won’t handle keeping track of history, but if you (or I) add the feed to something like Google Reader, that will keep track of changes to the RSS feed for us/me. So, when the target page on OCZ’s site changes its version information, the feed will update, and Google Reader knows automagically. Read more on Ocz Vertex 3 Ssd [...]
